First off, let me be honest: I really am not a raving-lunatic fan of NASCAR. It’s hard for me to get excited about cars driving in circles for hours and hours and hours.
But, there’s something about racing that just makes sense in terms of web design, so here’s my virtual hat tip to them:
- Web design requires a team effort so you must not only acknowledge the team’s differences but you must also acknowledge them and utilize them to their full potential. You “win” when everyone does a good job, just like building a car (and keeping it working) during a race. Think “pit crew.”
- Preparation is just as crucial (if not more so) as execution. Preparing thoughtfully and building that car flawlessly is just as important as the race.
- Someone’s gotta drive it. In the end, only one man drives the track and there’s got to be a “point man” or something like it for web design; someone’s got the final call.
- The details are pretty important. I don’t know much about building cars, especially for NASCAR and racing, but from what I’m told you need to be dead-perfect when building a performance vehicle like that. The details are important, and although I’m not a fan of going too deep in web design specifics (because oftentimes complexity is the result) the details are important (in moderation).
There’s my ode and salute to NASCAR; now back to something better like Soccer.

Wow. I never thought there was anything you could learn from NASCAR….except how to grow a mullet and talk with a southern accent.
No offense if you have either of those….
