As an upcoming college freshman, I recently started driving on my own. One of my parent’s biggest concerns was that while I was driving, that I would pick up my phone to answer a phone call or text.
Of course, I promised them that I would never pick up a phone call or text while I was on the road, but this soon became a problem as well because when they would call or text to find out where I was, I would not answer since I was on the road.
I figured that this is a common problem, so since I own a BlackBerry (used to own a BlackBerry now I own an iPhone), I checked out the Blackberry App Store.
Sure enough, there’s an app for that and it’s called “Drive Safe.ly“.
When you receive a text or e-mail while the application is active, it will read aloud both the sender and the body of the message, and then will sends back to the sender a message saying “I’ll get back to you soon.”
Only catch? The free version only reads 25 words while the paid version will read all of them. The price isn’t too bad, and it’ll only run you $13.95 for a 1 year license. However, for the average person, 25 words is enough for a text and enough to at least get the gist of an email.
Oh, and if you’re an Android user, you can download Drive Safe.ly as well. They are currently working on an iPhone and Windows Mobile beta version.
