So, what FTP clients are you using?
A couple of weeks ago, we talked about some of the best ways to code from the road whenever clients are unhappy and you’re mobile.
There’s always going to be more to add to the mix, though – like net2ftp.

I’m sure many of you are already pretty stoked about the iPhone 4.0 OS and so am I – It’s going to bring a number of cool features that should have been released when the product went to market (If you missed the keynote address, check it out here).
99% of the conversations so far have been around 2 things: Multi-tasking and the new advertising platform, iAd, both of which are exciting. But what about some of the not-so-glamorous new features?
Here are 3 that I’m thinking about:

Database administration isn’t necessarily the most glamorous aspect of development so when it comes to finding a slick frontend to help ease the pain of managing my tables, I’m all for it.
There’s definitely a fair share of applications out there that seek to make the experience as painless as possible, but when it comes to a simple, lightweight, web-based solution, it’s hard to beat SQLBuddy.
Check it out.

I was stopped in mid-stride the other day to help solve and issue that was both web and IT related (at the same time apparently) and it reminded me of something I learned a long time ago in terms of hiring.
You see, there are essentially 2 types of employees that a church and ministry (and any organization actually) hire:
The former are a godsend because they essentially know what they are doing with their IT resources (laptops, computer, telephones, devices) and don’t cause as many problems. The latter create a lot of trouble tickets.
But, instead of complain about the chasm that seems to separate the two distinct groups I’ve come up with a simple mental system that I try to apply whenever there’s an issue:

There have been a number of recent “scares” you might call them related to some of our servers and IT infrastructure, security with WordPress, and backup systems within the past few weeks that have “agitated” me a bit (to say the least).
I’ll admit, it’s hard for me to remember that God is in control of all things, including Plesk Server Administration Control Panels, PHP, MySQL, and yes, even WordPress.
And even though the above is a comic (and humor is a cure-all for me when “bad” stuff happens) the principle is still true:

Jared sent me this link the other day and I’ll tell you one thing: I really like the logo for Arq!
But, the service, after a quick survey of responses and reviews, show to be just as good.
Arq is an online backup service that provides a number of options and features that many other more-famous alternatives don’t give, such as persistent file repositories and easy-to-understand (and real) encryption options.
Versioned files are also possible.
I think the biggest thing for me is that I’m already and S3 Amazon user and hooking something like this up would be a breeze.
