If your church has a Facebook page and is using it consistently and with an intention to reach a whole new group of people, you might want to consider changing your cover photo to something that is better for your ministry.
Here are seven Facebook covers for churches and ministries that your church or ministry should emulate. Before we get into that, let me also push for your ministry to also consider doing a Facebook social media strategy that has goals for building relationship. One tip to add your strategy, rotate out your cover photos regularly with these different options:
Feature Your Students
People love to feel special and putting their face on the most prominent part of your Facebook page could not feel any more special! Make sure when you are taking pictures that you get lots of smiling faces and when you are done with the event, upload them to Facebook, tag the people in the photos, and then make the best one your cover photo. (Note: We encourage you to have a photo release for every person in the image on file to protect yourself and them.)
Advertise Your Sermon Series
If you are a church that does lots of sermon series, advertise your sermon series on Facebook. Use engaging images, post the Scripture that the sermon is based on, and start the conversation.
Use It For Event Days And Times
While Facebook has great event features where you can invite people to RSVP to, a Facebook cover photo is the perfect place to promote big church events as a reminder to people. Make sure that it is not crowded or tacky, but the information is there for all to see.
Promote Church Branding
No doubt your church has a strong brand. Maybe your focus is on the individual stories of your congregation, wanting to evangelize to the lost, or serving the poor and widowed. Push your church’s brand and promote your mission.
Highlight Your Church’s Vision
No doubt your church has a vision for the next six months, one year, or five years with where you want to be. Maybe you want to have a solid financial foundation that is showing great stewardship, maybe you want to launch a new discipleship that sees everyone in your church in a discipleship pairing, or maybe you want to plant another church in the next town over. Use the cover photo to share this vision.
Market Your Custom Hashtags
Using Facebook, you might be experimenting with hashtags to have people tell the stories of their faith. If so, make an obvious display of it in your cover photo and if need be, use a short but clear tagline describing how people can use it.
Be Inspiring
While most of these cover photos have goals and purposes to them, there is something amazing about the simplicity inspirational cover photo. Maybe this is where you post a Bible verse or quote, but know that you can say little with words but say so much in an image.
Share your church’s Facebook page in the comments and let us know what your page looks like!
