I had the opportunity to be one of the photographers at Story event in Chicago this year. Having to work didn’t allow me to immerse myself entirely in the experience, but there was some time to sit back and soak it in. There was a wide variety of speakers covering all areas from design, ministry, filmmaking and photography.
Honoring the Gospel with Creative Video
As I have been getting more involved in doing video (as a natural extension of photography), I have been scouring Vimeo for sources of inspiration. Chris Fenner pointed out to me Salomon Lighthelm, a young filmmaker living Australia. When I saw the video Fo’tis’ma for the first time, I was blown away. Check it out after the jump:
The Evolution of Video with The DSLR
I recently made the jump from Nikon gear to Canon gear largely because I was going to start doing more video and at this time, Canon has the edge in that area.
The Canon 5D Mark II has become the premier choice when working with DSLR video. It’s a full frame (the sensor captures the entire frame whereas a “crop” sensor cuts off some of the image) camera that produces amazing footage. At a price of $2500, you get the quite the bang for a buck.
Last year, the season finale of the television show ‘House’, was shot almost entirely with the 5D MK II.
Machine Gun Preacher: The Movie
I love hearing about stories of redemption. How about one where a former armed guard for drug dealers opens an orphanage in the Sudan?
That’s the story of Sam Childers aka the Machine Gun Preacher and his story is being brought to the big screen:
Spotlight: iPhone Photography With Peter Kim
It may sound cliche, but the iPhone has changed the face of point and shoot photography. As a photographer, I made the change from Android to the iPhone largely due to the quality of its camera.
There are dozens of apps for the iPhone related to photography, but not one has taken the iPhone world by storm like Instagram. This free app is very easy to use. You snap a photo (or get one from your library) and upload it as is, or use one of fifteen different filters.
Where Instagram excels however, is that it has become its own community. Like Twitter, you can follow fellow Instagram users, use hashtags and also post images to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. Some Instagram users have really stood out with their work, producing images that could easily be turned into a book. Instagram has over 2.2 million users and upload 3.6 million new images a week.

Pimp Your MacBook with Stick With Me Baby Stickers
Thanks to Apple’s unique design with their MacBook lineup, those with a creative and entrepreneurial spirit have capitalized by creating decals and stickers to place over the illuminated Apple logo. One my favorites is the Iron Man decal.
The crew over at Stick With Me Baby have come up with some cool stickers to add the MB. The descriptions are funny (there are some double entendres so you’ve been given fair warning). Be sure to check the site as well, since the design is excellent, too.
