As I have been getting more involved in doing video (as a natural extension of photography), I have been scouring Vimeo for sources of inspiration. Chris Fenner pointed out to me Salomon Lighthelm, a young filmmaker living Australia. When I saw the video Fo’tis’ma for the first time, I was blown away. Check it out after the jump:

Salomon is a Brother in Christ and has quite the testimony. What I found fascinating is what he uses to shoot. While he plans on getting some higher end equipment and software to edit, he is currently doing everything on a 13″ Macbook Pro. He uses just a Canon 7D and two lenses. A Sigma 30mm 1.4 and a wide angle Tokina 11-16mm.
That’s it.
The rest comes from the creative process. The storytelling, the editing, the grading, etc. If you have some time, check out this interview that Salomon did. It’s kind of long (around 40 mins) but it is fascinating to listen to his story which he gets into heavily in the first 5 minutes.

This blog post gives a timeline of what they discuss in the interview.
Make sure you go to Salomon’s Vimeo page and check out some of his other work. He also has a blog where he goes into some detail about the concepts. You can also see some of the ungraded screen shots.

Very cool! Although the graffiti was obviously fake, a fun video for sure.
