Growing an online presence on the web for your church and ministry can be a daunting task simply because it’s hard to know where to start and what specifically one should do and/or focus on.
Honestly, it’s the small steps that can make the greatest impact and constant evaluation and small adjustments are all that’s needed to craft significant SEO advancements. Don’t worry about the larger picture – just start small!
Here are 3 quick tips that can help you start moving forward…
1. Do Some Research!
Doing some very basic keyword research can do a world of good for you. Using free tools like Google Adwords Keyword Tool to see how many searches are made for a particular word and/or phrase can help you create a list of the ones that might be the best for your ministry.
Pretty easy way to start, right?
2. Built Some Strategic Links!
Now you can easily begin to take your research and use those keywords and begin to incorporate them into your anchor text of the links throughout the website and on your other properties. The latter part is a very smart move and try to get other sites to link to your ministry properties with those anchor links.
Perhaps even educate your congregation to use those in their social media properties and blogs!
3. Use Social Media!
Although there are competing viewpoints on how social media impacts SEO one thing is for certain: Social Media and Social Networking properties create traffic and create links, both of which are important on creating high-value results and returns.
SEO, at it’s core, is based on relevance and authority and authority is built on links and more links essentially creates higher relevancy for your sites on keywords.
Use Facebook, Twitter, or start a blog!
So get started!

Thanks John for the write up. I have already forwarded this on to my web team at Church. Hopefully they are listening! Oh wait I am that team haha
Anyway this is a great outline for those of us who are NOT quite as familiar with all of this as you are.

John,
You might remember me from Irving Bible’s tech conference a while back. John Dyer introduced us.
I’m designing a blog at http://www.artsfestivalgallery.org and wanted to use the same google search widget that you use on churchcrunch.org. What is the name of this widget?
Also, what is the name of your advertisement widget.
Regards,
Matt
