Having a network of blogs introduces a number of challenges that typical single-blogs do not encounter (obviously) and one of the features that we’ve been hearing a lot from the community is making all of the “Search Boxes” site-wide also query the other blogs for content.
We’ve heard, we’ve listened, and we’ve executed.
And it just makes sense as the number of properties do have some overlapping content and we’re going to only keep on growing.
It was simple to do too:
As you can see a search for “Google Voice” results in returns from more than just one property.
Just Add More Sites!
Creating this functionality is actually pretty easy. First, go to the Google Custom Search homepage:
After signing in create a new custom search or manage an existing one:
Then choose “Sites,” “Include sites in bulk,” and then proceed to add all the domains you’d like to include in your search:
And that’s that!
Save your work and then embed the code you need on your site and/or blog. Style appropriately.

Cool stuff – so how did you get the results to show in your main content area? Mine appears right under the button.
John Saddington says
put it in a page.

very cool,
I am up and running with google search on my blog, thanks John.
Using the iframe option with the results showing on a full width page.
I’ll have to style the search button, although I thought I had, hmmm.
Would be cool to ‘partner’ with other blogs like mine that also have Google Search,
and search across out respective blogs.

that would be hot…….! that’s a great idea…
