The world of social media is a huge place and for a ministry, blogger, or business to want to not only jump into the process of beginning to engage socially online, it can seem both unnerving as well as confusing. I always urge people to start with a great social media strategy from the beginning that gives you vision, a mission, and direction to share and engage well.
Do you decide to start in just one place like Facebook with over a billion users and the most active social media location on the Internet or do you push through with some new social network like Google+ and become an authority voice? Do you decide to hedge your bets and post on several different networks, each with their unique content or fully invest in just one and build up a great audience in a central location?
The infographic below is designed to not only give you some great tips on how to take your social media use from good to great, but provide you with some great facts. Here are a couple of the key points of the infographic that I want to highlight:
- 46% of churches say that social media is their most effective method of reaching out to their community. A stark contrast to the 25% for going door to door and 14% for using newspapers.
- Facebook is the biggest social media network out there and so for good reason, it is the most targeted network for churches. Twitter is in second place and Google+ in third. That being said, the size of the network should not be your only reason for connecting to a network.
- When surveyed, 50% of social media users said they only speak with 20% of their followers and friends on the different social media networks. That means that only about 10% of the people that are networked are being communicated to by the different blogs and businesses.
This is our first attempt at an infographic that will be a continuous project to be able to bring you some of the latest and greatest statistics on social media, blogging, technology, and any other church tech topics. They will include custom statistics, curated content, and a visually oriented graphic for you to share on social media for other ministries, churches, and bloggers that may benefit from the infographic.
Because these infographics are custom made, we would love for any ideas that you have for future infographics that you would love to see be done. Part of the limitations will be finding the research to put them together, but that does not have to stop us from making great content for you. So share in the comments, what kind of infographics would you like to see made up in the future?
