Google Fined by France
Google has been fined $141,300 by France’s privacy watchdog, CNIL.
Google has been charged with collecting email, web browsing histories, and online banking details from Wi-Fi networks from 2007 to 2010 via Google’s Street View camera-mounted cars and bikes.
This is the first fine, after 30+ countries have complained about Google’s data troll.
Google’s Global Privacy Counsel Peter Fleischer addressed the issue:
Google vs Facebook?
There has been no shortage of rumors circling around the Internet of Google launching their own version of Facebook.
Certainly, the fact that we refer to something as “‘Fill-in-the-blank’ version of Facebook”, gives us some perspective on how established the Social Media giant has become. Google is hoping it can grab some of the market by default. Google’s vast collections of resources and tools that are used by millions, all have their own user accounts. This naturally gives Google a decent potential users base to start with, something a small upstart doesn’t have.
But, is that enough?
Google’s New Search Options
Google is tweaking their search engine, again.
Remember, Google started as a search engine. Amazing, right?
It’s nice to see them giving their search engine more attention, it will at least keep the Bing builders busy.
Have You Updated Your Google Profile Lately?
Google has recently updated their public profiles and I spent a few minutes “sprucing” it up. The point of investing in this is simply because these profile pages are going to rank really high in search returns – it’s better to have them updated then empty if you ask me.
Here’s some further thoughts via Mashable:
The new Profile looks a bit more like the Info page on your Facebook profile, with your photo in the top left corner, essential information about you below, while a scrapbook of photos and more detailed info about your occupation, employment, education and whereabouts dominates the biggest part of the page.
The new design is not groundbreaking in any way, but it’s much nicer than before and it gets the job done.
