Of all of the questions I get asked and the advice that is sought by us, by far the number one need is how to write blog posts. The questions range from where we get inspiration to write, to how to do it effectively, to how long it should take to do a post well. So for the next four days, we want to help you guys out by showing you one way of writing blog posts well, our way.
It should be noted that if you copy this exact format, you will not be maximizing your effectiveness. That being said, these posts should be less about how we do blogging and more about why we do what we do that will define your own process. We will give you both how and why we do what we do.
Today, let’s start with the foundational beliefs of blogging. For you veteran readers, you already know some of them. You have to have a blogging strategy. This means that you know why you wanted to start a blog in the first place, come up with a narrow selection of topics that you feel you can blog consistently about (do not mix consistency with frequency, not the same thing!), and know that you have the means to write high quality articles. There is more to this blogging strategy including social media and how to improve search engine results, but we are going to stay on course with only the blog writing side of it. For seventy8 Productions, we focus on the realms of technology and ministry, how they coexist together, and resources for helping you use them better for the kingdom of God. Anything purely technology or solely faith oriented may still be great blog posts, but will have to be submitted somewhere else.
Secondly, we do not plan to make money off of this site. We simply want to be a free resource, have enough advertising to cover the costs, and be a help to you. Our passions lie in the youth ministry and young adult worlds and so that is where we serve full time, thus this blog is more of a hobby than career. That being said, it is extremely therapeutic to write, a wonderful networking resource, and a way to build up Christ’s message through a platform that can reach those in need. If you have any suggestions on how we an do this better, leave us a comment below or send us an email.
Finally, we write with the intent of maximizing our efforts. Sometimes we can spend as much as 15 or 20 hours a week just for this blog alone and that is not utilizing our abilities well. Through the process of this blog coming into its own, we have found ways to streamline the process without ruining the quality of it. As we will see in the next few posts, this includes finding places of inspiration, setting up a system to write articles quickly and necessarily, and even do series that drive a bigger message than any one post can do.
We would love to hear your comments on how you go about writing a blog post and if you have any specific questions you would like answered, leave them in the comments below and we will be as prompt as possible.
