Traditionally, batteries have been clunky pieces of hardware that limit how small a device can be. Having rechargeable batteries was a huge step forward, but that was 1985. Battery technology hasn’t changed a whole lot since then. But now, the industry is on the verge of something completely new.
Researchers at Rice University have developed a new form of battery – paintable ones! By taking the traditional components of batteries and turning them into paint particles, they are able to spray batteries onto any surface in any geometric shape. Check out the video after the break.
In this video, lead scientist Neelam Singh shows how this is done and some of the amazing applications that are possible with such technology:

Imagine entire buildings created out of solar-charged batteries? The impact on the environment could be enormous. Perhaps, too, this will lead computer and phone manufacturers to create even thinner devices. Macbook Air – move over. It’s time to make room for Macbook Sheet-of-Paper!
What uses do you see for technology like this?
