As of yesterday, Apple’s latest release, OS X Mountain Lion, is now available!
Have you moved on this massive 4GB upgrade?
With a $19.99 price point, it’ll be hard to find a reason not to make the upgrade.
If you’ve upgraded to Mountain Lion, what’s your take?
If you haven’t, are you planning to?
I would love to hear your thoughts!
Barry Wiseman says
Upgraded my primary MBP I use for church video/graphics and it went without a hitch! Everything has worked great, from Final Cut to Photoshop. Dictation has worked well (not extensively tested yet) and iCloud seems to have matured greatly. I really like Safari 6– seems snappier and I’m thrilled to have the unified address bar.
I would advise reading the extensive review on Ars Technica by John Siracusa– I’ve learned a lot by reading that.
Eric Dye says
Yes it was! I read it, too!
Here’s the link for those who would like to read it: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07/os-x-10-8/

Haven’t done the upgrade yet, but planning to. I skipped Lion because of some compatibility issues and there just weren’t quite enough features to persuade me.
I’m a little disappointed in some of the hardware requirements of Mountain Lion, especially for Airplay, but I understand at the same time.
Unfortunate that this will probably be the last OS update for my aging iMac.
Eric Dye says
If you can make the jump, you should be set for a while, at least. I’m going to wait a little bit before jumping over, too, since this is my primary (and only) machine to work from. I want to make sure they have all the kinks ironed out, eh!
Reba says
Did it last night on my MacBook Air and my iMac. Both seemed to work great. Upgrading my Macbook Pro work computer today. I really like some of the updates though I am disappointed to find that undated reminds don’t show in the notification center (at least not a way I have found yet).
Eric Dye says
That’s a lot of updates! 😀
Eric J says
Not a mac user but i usually try to wait a month after an operating system before i put it on a mission critical machine.
Eric Dye says
I know that feel, bro.
Eric J says
Yeah I’ve had systems hosed by major updates before so I am cautious now.
Jonathan says
Installed it last night, love it. I’ll be using AirParrot, most likely, to get Airplay since my MCP is from 2010. Otherwise, it’s much snappier and smooth. My MCP is working much better using this install than it was with Lion.
Eric Dye says
Really? I keep hearing this. I’ve been really impressed with my iMac running Lion. The thought of it running even BETTER blows my mind! #MacN00B
Jonathan says
Yeah. When I did the jump from Snow Leopard to Lion, everything felt very bogged down. It motivated me to jump to mobile blogging on my iPad instead. Since this update, however, I’m inspired to upgrade my HD and RAM and have a power machine for blogging…
Eric Dye says
POWER BLOGGER!!!! 😀
Jonathan says
I upgraded the HDD last night and did a fresh install of Mountain Lion – it’s very snappy and quick now. The RAM still needs to be upgraded because the sticks I got were defective and are being replaced, but for 4g, it certainly acts like there’s more. Lovin’ it…
Eric Dye says
I can’t wait!
Jonathan says
Tested out AirParrot last night. I won’t be buying it. The idea is nice, but the pixelation and lag time isn’t worth it. I’ll just hook up my MBP to the HDMI every time, I suppose, since I already have the cable.
Adam Shields says
Upgraded without a hitch. I like the notification center and the power settings that allow it to do updates and some other things while ‘off’. Safari is much snappier, but I will still primarily use Chrome.
I still am surprised that there is not the option to use spaces on dual monitors independently. That seems like such a no brainer to me. I really like the idea of spaces but I primarily use dual screens and full screen mode that eliminates the use of one screen is ridiculous.
Eric Dye says
Agreed.
Brendan says
I updated today to test it before we upgrade all of our church machines. It looks like the jump to Mountain Lion is easier/smoother than when we updated to Lion (for some reason that felt like a big step). Now that we’re used to Lion, the new updates feel like refinements that make a lot of sense.
RoaringApps has a good Mountain Lion app compatibility list, http://roaringapps.com/apps:table, you can check before updating. Our Adobe CS5 suites work! I’ll have to see how ProPresenter does.
Eric Dye says
Sweet! Thanks for the link!
Brendan says
It’s been a few days now since my upgrade and Mountain Lion has been a very smooth transition! I’ve been running my computer pretty hard the last several days editing photos and videos from a recent mission trip. With Photoshop and Bridge running, photos uploading in Safari, surfing lots of tabs in Chrome, editing videos in iMove—all at the same time—the OS seems to love it!
Michael Hyatt says
I upgraded yesterday on my MBA. Everything went without a hitch—except, there seem to be some incompatibilities with older Cinema displays. I run two of them mirrored, using a NewerTech USB to DVI converter.
I couldn’t get the image to display on my secondary monitor until I upgrade the driver using one I found at DisplayLink. That worked pretty well, except the USB capability is not being passed via this connector as it previously was. This means I can’t use my secondary keyboard.
I may have to buy a bluetooth wireless keyboard.
Michael Hyatt says
Update: The problem was not Mountain Lion. It was a loose cable. (Duh!)
Eric J says
Crisis averted!
Eric Dye says
Blasted cables! (I love my Bluetooth Mac keyboard :D)
Jonathan says
Agreed. I even use the bluetooth keyboard on my iPad when blogging from there.
Eric Dye says
Slick.
Chandos says
I wanna upgrade, but they haven’t sent me my up-to-date code yet. So I wait. Super-excited about all of the little things they’ve added this time around.
Eric Dye says
I’ve heard about this from others, too. If Apple is going to offer free upgrades for those that purchase a machine before the OS release, they shouldn’t have them wait! It should be automated!
Adam Shields says
My free upgrade code came in email this morning. Definitely should have been earlier and should have been automated. But it did come.
Eric Dye says
Maybe they’ll do better next time.
Dave Shrein says
No problems, smooth sailing… reminds me of when I first upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Eric Dye says
Cool! I like the sound of “smooth sailing” — 😀
rcarmstrong says
Planning on it, most likely in the next week or two.
Eric Dye says
That’s what I’m thinking.
