Messaging groups in WhatsApp, Slack other similar apps are a norm. Chances are you’re part of a couple of groups. There’s even a possibility that you’re admin for a group or two. Groups make communication easier. When not done well, though, when not done well, groups can be a pain. Thus, rules for messaging groups should never be an afterthought.

When it comes to keeping communication as easy possible, consider the use of groups in messaging apps. This makes communication and keeping everyone in the loop much better. To some extent, efficient.

Fairphone 2: The Ethical Phone Gets An Upgrade

A few years back we looked at the issues facing buying an ethical smartphone took a peak at the Fairphone from the company of the same name.

At the time it was a brave and interesting idea to make an “ethical” smartphone by an independent group and not a larger company. Bearing in mind this occurred when stories about factory conditions in the companies Apple was hiring to produce phones were rife, the idea of an ethical smartphone hit the right time.

Now, some three years later, Fairphone are back with the Fairphone 2.

4 Reasons Why Slack Channels Are Awesome

Slack is a great messaging app (we use it here at ChurchMag and also recommend it for churches). One of the features that makes it great is the channel feature. Each team or group can create a number of channels for communicating different things. Consider a channel as a room in a building where you discuss particular subjects. To labor this: the kitchen is for talking about food, lounge sports etc.

Downwell [Saturday Morning Review]

It’s been a little while since I enjoyed gaming on my iPhone.

It takes a particular kind of mobile game for me to enjoy. Too many feel like they were designed with a controller in mind or overly simple.

I’m picky, I know.

But with my recent spark of wanting to play some “retro” feeling games and seeing a newly acclaimed iOS game on sale, I dug into my iTunes Christmas credit and took a chance with Downwell.

7 Minute Prayer Challenge [App Review]

Sticking to a consistent prayer habit can be hard for many of us. It’s easy to let the weight of the world get in the way of our thoughts and lose focus even when we know that we need prayer more when we are busy. While some people simply try harder (usually resulting in feeling more guilt) I am a firm believe that using tools and “life hacks” (ergh I hate that word) can help establish a habit which in turn changes our hearts (which in turn makes the habit easier and changes our mindset). That where 7 minute prayer challenge comes in, an app that uses behavior tricks and technology to promote a regular prayer habit.
