Apple held a big party a few weeks ago, and the internet exploded with blind joy, bitter mocking, and multiplied levels of…meh.
I think I loved the mocking the best, even as a confirmed Apple enthusiast. Funny is fun, right? But beyond all of the fun, there might be something of value here. At the very least, Sean Leacy (@GeekAthair) and I engaged in a civil discussion of the pros and cons to both sides for over fifteen minutes.
So, let’s dig in and figure out why your church should be like Apple.

If you haven’t heard about the news of the Samsung Note 7 problems, because you decided it was better to live like Harry Potter under your uncle’s stairs, there has been an issue with the Samsung Note 7 battery blowing up. Not blowing up as in it’s amazing, as in explosions, fires, destroyed cars, burnt children, and now being denied airline travel because of your phone blowing up. It’s honestly bad for Samsung and not just because they are going to have to write off 2% of their net income for the year (but honestly, they get all that tax credit now, so it’s not horrible for them).
Smartphones can be great tools for productivity…and a good distraction. Having an app won’t necessarily help you stay more focused or get more done, but if you want to use your phone for productive purposes, that’s a good first step.

During the month of September the largest Scripture-translation organization in the world, Wycliffe Bible Translators USA, has launched a campaign to “spark conversations about the Bible’s relevance to modern life.”
It’s called #WhyBible, and while they plan on doing this every September, this is clearly something we should consider all year long– especially when you consider these sobering statistics from the Barna Research Group (2016):

The big announcement from Apple happened and those of us who are Apple fans probably geeked out more than a few times. Ok. Maybe a lot of times.
Here are some of the highlights and a few of my own thoughts from Apple’s big announcement.
