There have been a number of posts by the guys over at LifeChurch.tv on their Swerve Blog that have seriously challenged and impacted my thinking recently. They all have to do with change:
When I see a series like this, especially by the leadership, I can only imagine what’s being planned for LifeChurch.tv and I’d suspect that some significant changes are going to occur. So, I’ll be watching…!
But of course my thoughts tend toward the web and as I read these posts I immediately thought of their application toward technological changes in ministry. Here’s some of those thoughts:
- Web technology can be seen as extremely threatening to the ministry and ministries can (will) balk, even if they bring vast improvements to communication and work.
- Changes in web (and the web department) will “burn” people; emotions can run high and people get offended.
- One of the challenges presented to leadership is to not shy away from web technology and the changes but to embrace it.
- Managing the long-term cycle of change is tough, especially when changing the way we do things on the web. These “seasons” need to be well managed and well thought out.
- Web technology is only a small part of the much larger change that needs to occur; a culture shift and change needs to be the movement behind the technological change.
- God must be in the midst of a technological revolution, make sure He is!
- Small, incremental changes in web technology are smart; the nuke-it-and-survive-it strategy doesn’t really work because too many relationships are involved.
- Continually be flexible and continually evaluate.
- Pray.
I’ll be watching their blog this coming week as they give stories and examples. Thanks for doing that Craig and Bobby!
