I’m pretty much sick and tired of CAPTCHA, the human-test whatever-you-wanna-call it program that gives me hives when I try to do it.
I mean, it was so bad today when I was trying to close an account at Vyoom.com that I figured I might as well screencap my attempts to delete my account.
Above you’ll see that it actually worked after 3 attempts captured, but let me assure you that these final three were after about 6 or 7 previous attempts (of course, those failed attempts got me to capture the darn fiasco on video).
There’s got to be a better way…! I hate CAPTCHA and it’s darn-impossible entry requests; someone make it go away, like, forever.

Still better than form spam, isn't it? Is there a better alternative?

biometric reading.

I also hate comment moderation. I know some sites get spam ( because akismet must be too hard to configure…) but my God, please stop moderating the four comments you get….
human3rror says
moderation takes a lot of time too… which baffles me…
bman says
Wow. Glad to know I'm not just a complete idiot on these forms. I can't fathom moderating all of my comments. That would be awful. I'm more than happy to have jumped ship from Blogger for this reason alone: No more word verifications. (Let alone all of the other wonderful advantages)

blogger… LAME!

I agree 100%, although, there was a mild sense of community that I lost when I made the switch. Oh well. Better website, better everything.

My current blogging platforms are a basic structure (WP, I like Expression Engine) + third-party commenting system (disqus, intensedebate). Outsourcing the hard stuff, let them handle the identity & security challenges. Assuming they work, of course (most of the time it does).
@JS – thoughts & experience with Intense Debate? Pros & cons? Seems related to this frustration you mentioned ("Identity 2.0")

I hate CAPTCHA because it seems like no matter how clear PUDDULC IDUCK is to my eyes, it still somehow spells FLOUNDER CHOPS or something.
IMHO there are much easier ways to get around Captcha et al.

The worst is on Reddit … almost always takes me 2 or three attempts and if I'm in a hurry sometimes I just avoid Reddit altogether.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's right up there with the plastic packaging most gadgets come with these days.
Graham Brenna says
my favorite is buying a new pair of scissors that comes in that packaging! What do they think we're going to use to open it?!?!
Graham Brenna says
"WORD" on the anti-CAPTCHA thing. I didn't know it was called that until this post. Now I have an actual name to hate instead of "the-stupid-word-I-can't-spell-because-I'm-apparently-the-stupidest-person-on-the-earth-and-then-there's-a-niner-thrown-in-there-box"

Something about the way that Christianity Today uses Captcha means that if I miss it the first time (when using Chrome my preferred browser) I have to copy the comment and open another browser and resubmit. Once I miss it the first time it will NEVER let it go through again, not matter if it is right or not.
human3rror says
i hate that.

I thought I was the lone warrior. Knighted by the sword of stupidity epically unable to enter the phrase correctly. I am comforted by your drama and willing to join the yet to be established anti-Captcha crusade!

join me. 😉
