It’s just a fact of life – people will opt out and leave your app, service, or web experience. It’s not personal, it’s just is what it is.
But how to you manage those that are leaving? How do you get notified when people leave? How do you followup?
I found one great example when someone left the 8BIT Meetup Group (by accident actually because no one would ever leave our group…!) and I received this email from the Meetup.com system:
As you can see the email gave me some really neat facts about this particular user, including their engagement within the actual system and community. Had this been a significant and active user I would have definitely followed up!
They even include a direct link to the messaging system to email this user for followup!
I thought this was a wonderful system they’ve got in place and is an example of a “best practice”.
