The Internet and advertising seem to go hand in hand.
But the methods of advertising on the internet are changing, and changing quickly.
Check out this video of “How the Internet is Changing Advertising” after the jump…
I found this statement from the video very interesting:
We are on the internet to have a shared experience
It seems that this shared experience is what is driving the new way of advertising. Switching from the visual way of advertising and going towards the shared experience way of advertising is directly effecting the way we see things and experience products.
I wonder though, with the implications of making money and using the shared experience of educating, enlightening, and discovery causes a distrust amongst truth and value from the user?

Ha, dude this is exactly what I have been struggling with for like three long months.
The core issue is that a business NEEDS cash in order to stay alive. So what do you do?
1) Business asks users to purchase software.
But how do you come up with the price point that is fair and reasonable? That so far has been the absolute toughest question.
2) Business offers software for free, but makes money through advertising.
And like you state, how do you maintain the trust of the user? When obviously outside influences are heavily effecting your message.
3) Pay what you want (Donationware)
After a lot of debate, my business is headed more towards this model. We don’t have to accept advertisers, and it will help set a discovery on the price point. I also think this model only works if you can be insanely lean.
Anyway, appreciate the timely article.

All are good options but also have their cons.
I think a pay what you want has worked well for some companies and musicians, interested to see how it works for you and your company.
