Disney is known for creating magic, but their latest invention brings magic to a whole new level:
Botanicus Interacticus.
It’s a real, but interactive plant, developed by Disney Research.
By ‘simply’ using electrical currents and a simple wire placed anywhere in the plants’ soil, Botanicus Interacticus registers you touching the plant. It distinguishes between a light and a firmer touch, it knows where you touch and how far away you are from the plant and it ‘knows’ the difference between sliding and holding for instance.
It’s amazing to watch!
It allows for all kinds of interaction with the plant, as the video below shows. You can make music with a plant, any plant actually, each leaf representing a different note. Or use it as a touchscreen for your computer or Mac. The possible applications are endless…

Imagine, in a few years from now, we’ll no longer have boring keyboards, but plants to use for writing blog posts, for designing websites or for making videos … maybe.
Like I said, it’s magic.
What possible applications do you see for this ‘magical’ invention?
