Youth ministry in today’s culture seems to be synonymous with social media because high school students are on it so much (and even middle school, though they should not me on it due to age restrictions). You would be hard pressed to know a paid youth worker who does not have social media.
The fear I have is that we are not using social media well to reach children.
Normally when I do infographics, this is the part where I disect a portion of it and let you read the rest, but technically it is about teachers and social media and instead I want to make some observations that youth workers can learn from it.
- Use It In Youth Group
The infographic advocates for social media in the classroom. Youth workers, if you want to connect with them from a holistic perspective, connect Jesus to their online world too. Empower them by using online Bible resources, show them great Biblical media, and point them to your social media networks your ministry has a presence on, all during youth group from a projector. - What Is Our Focus?
The illustration below is perfect: Connect, Notify, Teach, and Curate. Be more than just a 1 hour Sunday or Wednesday program. - Utilize Multiple Networks
Facebook was designed to be personal, YouTube to use videos, and Pinterest to be visual. Use all three and connect with several different types of students with different learning styles, from many different backgrounds. SO KEY!
