One of the most important aspects of filming a video is the audio that accompanies it. It doesn’t matter how good the video looks, if the audio stinks then people are not going to enjoy it.
I remember one of my college professors talked about an experiment involving two groups of people that went something like this:
- The first group sat in a room while a video was projected onto a screen. Every once in a while the video would flicker, cut out, or just plain look bad. The audio bed for the video, however, was flawless. It sounded great and had no mistakes. Afterwards the group rated the film, and despite the flawed video most people give it a good score.
- The second group watched the same exact movie with two exceptions. The video was flawless. There were no flickers or bad shots. Everything looked great. But the audio was horrible. It was either too loud or too quiet. Sometimes it cut in out during dialogue. The soundtrack wasn’t mixed right with the voices. After the video this group of people also rated the film. This time, despite great picture quality, the majority of people gave it a bad score.
