As most of us are counting down the days until our Christmas Service(s), I’d love to hear what you are doing this year as well as some things you tried in the past that didn’t really work like planned. At it’s core, ChurchMag as a whole, is not just about great content – it’s about facilitating community and solutions.
I know for the church I used to work at, we would usually double the normal amount of weekend services for Christmas as well as have a come-and-go communion on Christmas Eve. That latter was more casual, as there was worship music playing and pastoral staff available to administer the elements.
I remember one year, we had a service around lunchtime and unfortunately, it was mostly volunteers and staff in attendance. I guess we were trying to squeeze another one to give people more of an opportunity to invite friends and we just didn’t account for the fact it was at the same time as a meal. You live and you learn, right?
Also, we were known in our community for having church services on Christmas Day, if December 25 was a Saturday or Sunday. I know that’s not the case for everyone. In rural, southeast Georgia, it worked really well and people make it a part of their family traditions.
What I’d also be curious about, is how you come to the decision of adding or combining services in your local context.
Let’s turn the comments into a discussion, and see where it goes!

I really wanted to go but missed a film created for Christmas by The Village Community Church in Milton, Ontario. It was presented free in 3D (requiring blue and red glasses) on the 23rd in a “Theater for the Arts” built that year for the community. This page has two of the 3D Videos near the bottom: http://www.villagechurch.ca/index.php/village-church-media/village-church-videos
