Several years ago, I ditched Evernote. I was a loyal user for the all the reasons everyone loves Evernote: organization, the ability to handle any data type you throw at it, and having it available on any and every device I used. Then, they restructured. Free features became locked behind a paywall, and I could only use the free version on two devices, this wouldn’t work as I was constantly bouncing between my phone, tablet, and desktop. This began my search for a replacement that could do everything I needed it to. Finally, last year, Notion launched, and I haven’t looked back. This calls for a Notion review. Simplenote: Overshadowing Evernote
Evernote was one of my go-to apps. I used it so regularly and loved it so much that I even created a to-do list template to go along with it. My workflow revolved around Evernote to a huge degree, but then…
Beginning today, the prices for our Plus and Premium tiers will change for new subscriptions, and access from Evernote Basic accounts will be limited to two devices.
Evernote Blog – June 28, 2016
Initially, I chose to use my laptop and my iPhone, removing the app from my iPad, but then, I got a second laptop (one loaned to me from my work, one personally owned) and needed a better system but wasn’t ready to make a decision. For the time being, I was limping along with the standard Apple Notes app.
Evernote Is My Favorite Long Form Writing App
For all things simple, including my ChurchMag infographic articles, quick opinion pieces, and inspirational video posts, I simply use the WordPress native app. Easy, and so distraction free, that anything else would be silly.
But I have been getting into longer form articles (read 700+ words) as well as ebooks (9,000+ words) which require something more. Microsoft Word is not cloud-oriented (I don’t have Office 365) and WordPress has been known to lose too many documents if you take too long to write and a connection is lost.
Enter Evernote and their Desktop app.

From Legal Pad to iPad: The Evernote To-Do List
Lists are amazing. I love lists. Whether’s Letterman’s Top Ten List—Dave, you will be missed—or those stupid “list-idles” that are so popular on the web, I have a deep, abiding appreciation for lists.
Especially when it comes to getting things done!
I’ve blogged a lot over the years about apps and notebooks and various things that could possibly/maybe sorta/kinda help one get their tasks organized and, more importantly, done. However, nothing has really made the different for me.
I tried Things. I tried Wunderlist. I tried Producteev. God, help me, I tried Reminders. Nothing did the trick, so I did it myself by going analog.
For about three months, I went old school. Yellow. Legal. Pad. Boom! Then, I added a clipboard and a manila folder, to complete the 1980’s trifecta. Check it out:
