There are a number of screen capture software out there that’ll do the trick for most of what you need and to be quite honest I use the built-in functionality of the OSX software on my Mac to do most of what I need.
But, when it comes to grabbing an image of a full website or screenshot my hat goes to SnagIt Beta for Mac.
Here are a few reasons I love it:
First off I love how it has a “low profile” on my desktop and shrinks to one of the sides of my screen:
It’s on the left (or wherever you want it) on mouse-over:
I also like how you can connect short-cut keys to it’s functionality.
But, the king-of-all-features is the full-website grab. Sure you can use it to just grab a window, but what about the full site that requires tons of scrolling?
Check out TechCrunch for example – they scroll forever:
The UI is nice with the ability to add elements, text, etc:
Full screen grab:
So, that’s what I use.
What about you?

That is awesome. Great resource

We use it here at work and without it running in the background the PCs run much better. This is obviously on a much better machine, a mac, but the built in screen shot is what I use for my limited needs.

Man, this is just what I was looking for. Thanks for the heads up.

You can find browser plugins to accomplish the same thing. I use Chrome + Awesome Screenshot for web stuff and Skitch for desktop stuff.

I use the OSx built in stuff.
But i love SNAGit’s built in effects. I’ll use it to upload stuff to my blog or whatnot for a bit of a cleaner look without having to open up photoshop.

Before my Mac days, I used Snag-It all the time – it is a great tool. I’ll check out the Mac Beta! Thanks for the tip.

I am a Mac user, so I use some different tools… For screencapturing, I use Skitch (http://skitch.com/) so I can add notes and easily upload a link to it. For full website screen grabs, I use the Page Capture widget (http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/pagecapture.html). Works like a champ!
