5 Tips to Starting a New Blog (From Someone Who’s Done it A Lot)
I once counted how many blogs I’ve “started” in my lifetime and it was something ludicrous and somewhat embarrassing. Thankfully, I can’t remember (and perhaps it really doesn’t matter).
As you already know, we’ve recently launched 3 new blogs in the 8BIT Network and trust us when we say that we’re not done yet. All of them have been doing fantastic so far (per our metrics and goals) and we can probably say with a little bit of confidence that we have an idea of how to start a new blog off right.
We’re no experts though, but here are 5 tips for starting a new blog from someone who’s done it a lot:

Bookmark This: Non-Profit Text Messaging Benchmarks Launches
I love this.
Got news the other day of this new reporting organization, Mobile Benchmarks, that recently launched that is essentially tracking how non profits are using mobile technology to increase awareness, advocacy, and obviously fundraise:
The 2010 Nonprofit Text Messaging Benchmarks report is the first of its kind. A joint venture between M+R and MobileActive.org, the aim of this study is two-fold:
1) To provide benchmarks and metrics by which nonprofit organizations can measure their success with text messaging; and 2) to illustrate the various ways in which organizations are using text messaging.
You can download their first report for free and I’ll admit that the report is good.

Does Your Church Have an IT Help Desk?
Quick Tuesday afternoon musing:
Does your church have an IT help desk?
We used to have one, I think. It was kind of cool, where people could walk up and drop off their computers, ask for advice, etc.
But, it disappeared a few months ago, and hasn’t resurfaced. I kind of miss it, even though it gave me a prettier view of the parking lot with their departure…

A kind reminder that the recent hot trend of saying “Content is King” is actually more nuanced now than it ever has been.
People come for the great content, yes, but it’s the process by which they get there that’s just as important.
The simple fact is this: Great content is produced daily but only a few pieces ever get to your ears (and eyes). Why? It’s because distribution strategies are just as important (some would argue more important) as the content to which it’s linking to.
I mean, we have some of the best “content” out there: A message of hope for a dying world. But we completely suck at getting the word out, or getting the word out in a way that’s wise and effective.

SoundJay: Royalty Free Sound Effects for Your Audio Production Needs
I am an audiophile, but probably not as hardcore as a number of the readers here.
There was a time, though, when I did try to do a lot of “mixing” of elements and even considered opening up a flash-based web store selling some musical tracks and loops.
Luckily for me (and the rest of the world) I discovered that I honestly really sucked at it and that my time would best be spent doing web design and development (amongst other things).
