Now this is pretty neat.
Let’s say you need to quickly find a verse of the Bible as your using your computer. You already have a web browser up so you could do a number of things:
- Use Google
- Go to a Scripture Website You Have Bookmarked
- Or something else…
Why not go there directly with a URL shortener? Check this one out (we’ve covered another here as well):
You can simply use Wordof.GD instead by adding in exactly the verse you want. It’ll connect you to BibleGateway‘s extensive online library.
Try these out for starters:
- http://wordof.gd/john3:16-21web – Connects to YouVersion
- http://wordof.gd/john3:16-21esv
Developed by one of our 8BIT community members, Kenny, it’s a pretty neat and simple implementation.
Of course, there’s another option as well with Ref.ly. Check that out too!

nice, I like it.
So what happened to the sharing links?
Andrew says
I like it! I’ve been wondering why BibleGateway hadn’t gotten on the short URL bandwagon. Glad someone pushed them on.
Ginger Schell says
Wow, I love this! Thanks, John!
Chris Leversuch says
There’s also http://ref.ly/ from the Logos Bible Software guys.
John Saddington says
yeah. we’ve covered that too: https://churchm.ag/ref-ly-url-shortener-for-scripture/
Yohan Perera says
This one is even better…
Herb says
that’s awesome
Stephen Bateman says
That’s pretty cool, it even will work with spaces when typed into the address bar.
Yohan Perera says
Really?? I thought leaving spaces will break the link. Thanks for the tip…
Yohan Perera says
John,
This is excellent. Thank you for sharing…

Thanks for helping to spread the word on the WordOf.Gd Bible Linker!
Just a FYI, it’s not just for BibleGateway URL’s. As of August 2010, it supports about 30 different translations when you use the translation abbreviation at the end of the url — many of which are NOT on BibleGateway.
THIS IS THE DIFFERENTIATOR for Bible link shortening services — others like ref.ly only support one site at a time, but wordof.gd will let you create shortcut URL’s without worrying which site has which translation.
So when you try http://www.WordOf.Gd/john3.16NRSV, it automatically knows that the NRSV is NOT found in BibleGateway, so it goes and looks it up in the appropriate source. When you’re looking up a NIV, it will jump over to YouVersion.com since that site seems to offer a more dynamic experience…
I’m planning on adding more translations as I go along.
By the way, looking for INTERLINEAR HEBREW? Just add ‘HEBREW’ to the end of the URL: http://www.WordOf.Gd/genesis1:1HEBREW
Same goes for INTERLINEAR GREEK — add ‘greek’!
[Note: If your computer doesn’t have those fonts used, you’ll find a quick link at the TOP of the header for downloading the right Greek & Hebrew fonts]
Hope this help save some keystrokes! I’ve been thinking of using this tag line:
“Stop searching & go straight to the Truth!” What do you think?
