Although WordPress is a blogging platform at its core, many people have begun to use the application as a CMS of sorts. We’ve seen a number of businesses and churches begin to build out their online presence on top of it.
Of course, the sheer number of plug-ins that are available help to make it easy for many of us to customize our functionality without actually having to write any code.
We try to cover some of the new, more relevant plug-ins and a good friend of mine recently dropped Bing Maps for WordPress in my inbox…
Bing Maps for WordPress does exactly what it says – it provides simple Bing Maps integration into your blog. Rather than providing a sidebar widget, it allows you to embed a map directly into your post:
Though I had an easy enough time getting up and going with it, it’s worth noting that the plug-in is rendered in French by default. It is, however, localized is ready for translation. It also uses Silverlight so it does require an external dependency.
Still, the feature list is nice:
- Width and Height customization – percent value are possible
- Display navigation menu or not
- Display copyright in the map or not
- Display the Bing logo or not
- Display Scale indication
- Set the zoom level
- Set the display mode
- Set camera center
- Set point of interest
- Set Culture
Not bad, huh?

Nice! Any idea what the stats are on how many people have Silverlight installed?

Flash 97%
(installs in browsers in the US)
