This is pretty neat news, and with all of the insane migrations (Microsoft, Adobe, etc) it just makes sense!
Automattic, the parent company of WordPress, is now a real domain registration organization (ID #1531), and will be able to register domains for their users instead of their existing partnership with GoDaddy. Matt Mullenweg, the founder personally said that he is a domain collector and has generally been dissatisfied with the buying and management of domains.
I can’t wait to see what they come up with. This is great news!
WordPress is taking over the world.

ALso, now my domain registrations won’t have to fund godaddy.com porn advertising….

Good. I’m getting tired of GoDaddy’s “Domain Renewal Information Enclosed” emails that turn out to be advertisements. I do have some renewals due, in January. Then you have their upselling tactics and constantly rising renewal fees.
I’ve already used Rebel (a Canadian-based registrar, less expensive than GoDaddy even after the international purchase fees) for a few domains, and I expect that I’ll be moving the rest of my domains to them in time. Unless, of course, Automattic launches a better service.
