If you visit our website regularly and did so in the last 24 hours, you may have seen a similar view like the one in our post’s featured image. For nearly a whole day, we did not have a website presence. Of course, this is no big news because everyone goes down sometime. Twitter is famous for it, Facebook has had their moments, and Google’s downtime may have put companies out of business for hours.
Maybe the worst part about all of this is not having the ability to put it back up right away. I found it down only an hour or two after it was down, but it took several phone calls and emails before everything was restored. It seemed like time was just going extremely slowly and I was helpless.
Here are a few tips for when your website goes down.
- Do not panic It will get restored. Do not be impulsive or frantic. Do the necessary steps you can do to get it back up and then trust in the process.
- Check your backup While you wait, check your backups. Is the backup of your database, website theme, and active plugins up-to-date? Go check it out.
- Check if you get money for downtime Many hosting services offer you money for every hour of downtime you have to ensure they keep your business.
- Shop around This might be the perfect time to check out other hosting services, especially if it is not the first time you lost your website for a period of time.
- Write a post or two What you wait, put up a post or two and use that time constructively.
