This iPad app is revolutionary!
If you’ve ever used Instapaper, you can probably guess what Watchlater does.
As you surf the web, read Tweets, follow Facebook friends and wait for your friends to join Google+, you’ll find videos that you want to watch. My favorite are Ted Talks.
The thing is, Ted Talks are too long to watch in the middle of a busy day, so I save them for later. My wife and I hoard them, and watch them together at a more convenient time.
If only I had Watchlater!
Watchlater
Watchlater isn’t just a generic app for your iPad that stores links. It actually has a caching function that supports most video platforms. When you add a video, Watchlater converts them into an iPad format, so you can watch them later. The app comes with 300 ‘caching’ minutes, and if that isn’t enough, you can add more minutes with an in App purchase.
Easy.
Slick.
Remember, the videos you add are cached, so when you watch them later, you don’t have to be online. Say ‘goodbye’ to annoying buffering, and ‘hello’ to watching bookmarked videos on the plane, train, or anywhere you don’t have a connection. There are some sites that don’t allow caching, like YouTube, so you’ll have to watch your funny cat videos when you have an Internet connection.
Adding videos to Watchlater is easy, too. By using your iPad Safari browser or the JavaScript bookmarklet from any computer, you can add videos to Watchlater. You will also have the option to cache the video, again, depending on the site.
Airplay support? It has it.
You can grab Watchlater from the Apple App Store for $2.99. If 300-minutes of cache content isn’t enough, you can purchase more in 300-minute blocks from within the app, at the same $2.99 price tag.
Let me be extra clear about the cache time.
Once you use minutes to download and cache a video, it can’t be reclaimed by clearing that clip from your cache. You can re-cache videos you’ve cached before, but once you’ve cached those 300 minutes on new videos, you’ll have to purchase more time to download any more.
Learn more about Watchlater on their website or download Watchlater from the Apple App Store.
Watchlater: Cache or no cache, it’s worth the cash.
