The Warp Framework may be the perfect solution for those of you who are building themes for WordPress, Joomla and other CMS systems. The Warp Framework is supported by both WordPress and Joomla and can be extended to work on other systems as well. By using the Warp Framework, you’ll only have to familiarize yourself with one framework for all the CMS’ you’re working with.
Here’s a closer look:
Warp Framework
Here are some highlights of the Warp Framework:
- Themes and features are easily portable between supported systems
- Warp has no dependencies
- Only choose the framework tools you need
- Fast and lightweight
- Built on HTML5, CSS3 and PHP 5.2+
Warp has it’s own interface options, where you can easily choose multiple options — Tracking Code, Compression, Layout, Colors, etc …
What sets the Warp Framework apart from others, is the ability to develop cross-platforms and the dedicated mobile theme that’s baked in. It also has a decent CSS toolset — Grid System, Clearing Method, Cross-browser Support, Print Style Sheet and more.
I like Warp’s structure for creating custom themes by setting up your own custom styles and the dedicated mobile theme, however, I don’t like frameworks that give you drop down options for things like fonts and colors. I’ll do that via CSS, thank you.
If you’re looking for a framework just for WordPress, I think there are better options. The Warp Framework also happens to be a channel to sell premium Yoo themes and ‘Widgetkit.’
Bottom line: It’s free, so give it a download and check it out to see if the Warp Framework is something you would like.
What’s your favorite framework?

Looks to be very promising. Downloading and checking it out. One issue (major, imo), is that, while it does provide clean HTML5 markup, it is not built with responsive design in mind…in fact, YooThemes doesn’t even have a responsive theme in it’s portfolio – at least, what I saw and tested.
“Dedicate Mobile” theme, while a nice inclusion, is NOT the same as a responsive framework.
Unfortunately, this makes the potential lifespan and usability on the framework much less than it should be 🙁

SO true. Responsive is certainly the way to go.

They’ve just released the responsive framework for it 😉 http://www.yootheme.com/blog/2012/06/18/warp-gets-responsive-2

Cool! Thanks. 🙂

Hi Eric. You said “If you’re looking for a framework just for WordPress, I think there are better options”, can you tell me some?
I like Gantry very much but the WordPress version is very outdated.
Thank you.

As for frameworks, I would lean towards something like Boostrap or Foundation.
