iPhones have revolutionalize how we interact with others, do business, and entertain ourselves. While smart phones and tablets are fairly new technologies, it seems that lives has forever changed with our apps and mobile devices. There are a handful of apps that you just wonder, how in the world did I ever live without them? Of course this list does not contain everything we love, but all five of these are must haves.
- Facebook (FREE)
Doing youth ministry, I have found that I am on Facebook more via my iPhone than I am through the laptop. Of course, if I want to upload a lot of photos or do some major work on several of my Facebook pages, I’ll use something other than my smart phone. Facebook has done a great job of upgrading and focusing on their mobile using, going as far as making a clear point in their IPO statement that the mobile apps are the future of Facebook. - Starbucks (FREE)
This may not be the most powerful or flashy iPhone app, but it is a marketing goldmine. If you visit Starbucks enough, you can get your Starbucks gold card. So instead of holding onto ten different gift cards, managing your account from home, and just a huge mess, you can run everything from your smart phone. This means more cups of coffee sold and a community of Starbucks people. The fun part about the app is that you can build and save your favorite drinks, explore their menu at any time, and their food menu. So good for all you Starbucks fans. - FaceTime (FREE)
With the new baby in our lives, we have been constantly video chatting with family and friends. There are so many options here, including Google+ Hangout, Skype, and the iPhone’s FaceTime. Of the three options, the easiest to connect with our parents and siblings as well as how simple to maneuver around it can be is FaceTime. The other options are good alternatives when you do not have free hands or want to video chat with multiple groups, but we have used FaceTime three times more than any other chatting application. - Flashlight (FREE)
The flashlight is the most simple, yet most lifesaving app I own. Every time I come home from youth group, it is very dark out. Several times over the past year, I have dropped the keys to lock up the chapel or to get into my own house and this app gives off amazing light that shines brightly. For the fun youth worker in me, it also has a strobe light that I called the seizure inducer. You have to have it. - Hulu Plus (FREE)
Since getting rid of cable and paying for Hulu Plus, I have been occasionally watching my favorite shows online through the laptop, yet when I am in bed or at my office with nothing to do, I can just flip to the latest Community or Castle episodes on my iPhone. It is a great alternative to the clunky laptop and the fact that it is free is amazing.
