Is it just me, or is the new release of FaceTime Beta potentially a HUGE deal for production?
Whenever new technology is announced, I’m one of those sick souls that instantly wonders how it could could be applied to church environments.
…And In this scenario, I’m assuming the other pieces of equipment are already in place (Mac, wireless internet, screens).
But if they are, you can now have decent quality wireless video for interviews or broadcast pumped to your screens from an new iPod touch. Pretty sweet! Check out the video below:

It’s true that Skype, iChat, and a few others do videoconferencing. Granted, it’s not a full live streaming solution. It’s not HD. It’s probably choppy from time to time…..But to my knowledge this is the first time something like this has been available for a mobile device with the ease & portability of a camera. I have a feeling that this tech is only going to get cheaper & easier to do in the future. And that’s awesome!
Here are a few “Sunday Morning” applications I’ve been thinking about:
- Interviews from across the church (“Let’s check in live on kids church.”)
- Interviews from across churches (“Let’s check in on the Kentucky campus kids church.”)
- Interviews from across the world (“Let’s check in on our missionary friends in Albania’s kid’s church.”)
What about you? Have you been thinking in this direction with recent technology being released? Are there any other scenarios that you can think of that I may have missed?

Great idea. I bet it’d even look better and sound better if you used a Firewire camcorder for the source to Face Time!
