I had lunch with an old friend today and we encountered an iPad being used as a food ordering device!
I busted out my iPhone 4 and caught some footage:

The actual application wasn’t too great since it seemed to force a registration for new users, which obviously slowed down the process, but I liked the concept in general.
Have you seen anything like this in your neighborhood?

I’ve heard ideas like this before… it’s kind of expensive/over-kill for a touch-screen interface isn’t it?

i think so… unless it seriously increases speed in ordering… but it didn’t

We have something similar at a Jack In The Box. It’s was out of order the first time I was there after they put it in, it’s been working the past couple times but most people aren’t using it, they still stand in line and wait to be rung up. Seemed to speed things up on the lunch rush, I could see it taking longer if there’s no line.
Saw a review of a restaurant in New York that is using MS Surface on it’s tables. It looks pretty slick although some of the technology is scary like it’s ability to read your credit card when you set it on the table. Can check some of it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX4blrfpWLg
