Between texting, Facebook, Twitter, Buzz (okay, so maybe not ;)), Yammer, IM’s, and chat, even the most introverted among us have become social at least to some degree.
In fact, entire applications have been developed that help to streamline the whole social media thing. But many of us use our phones for communicating even more than our computers. This explains the ever-growing selection of mobile communication apps.
And so it is no surprise that one of the premiere desktop twitter clients, TweetDeck, has just announced a beta preview version for Android.
The announcement was made official via the company’s Posterous.
I’m interested to see how the application’s multi-column display performs on a smaller screen.
Any of you guys used it yet?
Chris Hill says
I’m using it now and the multi-column display works great on the small screen because you don’t see all columns at once. You swipe to the left and right to view other columns such as @replies or DMs.
The issue I’m having a hard time with is the multi-network integration. I’m only able to view about four updates on the screen at a time. Because of the large update size, I have to do a ton of scrolling just to check out the last few minutes of updates from twitter, facebook, buzz, and 4sq. However, it is a good idea to bring all networks together in one app.

Using it now. Your tweet was among the first I saw in Android TweetDeck. So far i haven’t seen multiple columns, but swiping (r to l or l to r) shows your other accounts.

So far it is pretty good. One thing I haven’t been able to figure out is how turn off other notifications (or if you can do it). Integration with other accounts is nice, but I don’t want to see Facebook messages here.
Also, (and this may be something else I just haven’t figured out yet) there is no sync option so the groups I have aren’t being displayed.
I am sure it will get better.

I’ve been using it. The columns are nice and smooth. (Like butter!) My hangup right now is the lack of integration in the whole phone. (like not being able to share via…)
It’s definitely still in beta, but once they squish the bugs, it’s going to give the official Twitter app a run for their money *cough…multi-account support…*cough!
Chris Hill says
Nick or Brett, do you know how to delete or “disconnect” an account from this app.
For example, I added Facebook, but now I don’t want to view Facebook updates anymore within the app. Any ideas?
Graham says
looks like they forgot that part! haha
Brett Barner says
Yeah, missing badly. I just reinstalled after I figured that you couldn’t un-login. Doesn’t look like it’s made it yet to the latest update either: http://blog.tweetdeck.com/android-tweetdeck-one-week-in
At least “Share” is available now. No widget yet, but it looks like that’s in the near future, as well as “better support for multiple twitter accounts”. Hopefully that means better account support.
I’m not expecting too much out of it since it’s in beta. I think the final release will pretty schweet though.

I downloaded this app last night and was playing around with it. I of course like that I can update facebook and twitter from the same app w/out using #fb. But I gotta be honest… I don’t like the dark background and white text on the small (4.3″) screen of my Droid X. Just very hard to read.
