If you’re looking for a way to easily create beautiful tooltips in your web designs, you should consider taking a look at Tipped.
Tipped evolved from the Prototip library, but uses HTML5 for you to gain more control on how your tooltips look and behave.
“The entire skin of the tooltip, from shadow to loading icon, is drawn using Canvas. This means that tooltip styles can easily be changed without having to create any images.”
Nice, right?

This one is going to cost you, but considering its flexibility, it may be worth if for you.
Thankfully, they provide a decent price scale, from single-domain non-commercial sites (a few bucks) to unlimited commercial use (a few hundred bucks).

This is a beautiful tooltip library. Really is. The cost for non-commercial is very reasonable, actually. the commercial license is a bit high, though. Tested and used – works very well, without any conflicts that I ran into.
