There’s always a tension between the desire to be perfect when we launch a product and the simple need to get it out there. I heard a quote the other day from a webpreneur (web-entrepreneur) that I truly respect and I have to agree 100%:
If you can take a shortcut for building your online product then take it and get your site out there; you can iterate afterwards. – Collis Ta’eed
Finally! I knew that my childhood educational-strategies would make sense long-term!
(I always tried to find a shortcut to do homework, etc.).
What’s the tension for you in building websites, web products, and such? Do you believe in taking shortcuts?
Coach Spoon says
It seems that you almost always have to take shortcuts and get it out there before it’s 100% because often times 100% never comes in sight…plus it sucks to work on something and get it almost perfect to then realize that everyone but yourself thinks it sucks…

At a former job where I was a cog in the consultancy machine, perfect never seemed to happen as everything was a race against the clock (complete on-time and at or below cost estimate). Unfortunate, but what can you do?
