Thanksgiving.
It’s pretty straightforward.
You cook a turkey, you mash some potatoes, you make some gravy — and there’s almost always stuffing (all the kinds).
A huge segment of the United States population follows this tradition, so as I sit here and think about the question of, “What’s your special Thanksgiving tradition?”, it feels a little silly at first…
But I know that many of you — if not all — have something unique that your family does.
Tell Us About Your Tradition!
Having lived overseas for seven years, our family had to take a whole new approach to Thanksgiving. Not only wasn’t celebrated in the country, but cooking turkeys and making stuffing was difficult if not completely impossible.
So what did we do?
Having watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, we were inspired to follow the little footsteps our dear cartoon friends. We popped popcorn, we had pretzels, and we substituted M&M’s for jelly beans (no jelly beans in Italy). Ice cream? We had it.
And that’s how our tradition started.
Fast forward to today, after being back in the United States for a full year, all that my kids can talk about is… not the turkey… not the potatoes and gravy… but having our plates full of our Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, watching those glorious 30-minutes, and being thankful that we have each other.
