You know that we have a deep and abiding love for all things WordPress here at the 8BIT Network.
I mean, we have to, right? All our blogs run it and we’ve tweaked the poop out of them and even released part of the core architecture from our blogs into an amazing WordPress Theme.
But I’ve had the pleasure recently to work with the team at SoChurch, which is releasing a communication platform for the Church, and we’ve leveraged WordPress for the main landing page and marketing site. In fact, we’ve pushed the design elements and functionality to the edge:
Read up on some of the things that we’ve implemented and let us know what you think!

We did it RIGHT! We should, during another post, talk about how we got it up and running in less than 3 weeks… now that’s a feat!
John Saddington says
definitely!

How well does SoChurch (the product, not the marketing site) integrate with a WordPress-based church website? Is there a WordPress plugin that SoChurch is developing?
Jonathan Cottrell says
Great question, Ben. We don’t plan on having a WordPress integration right out of the gate, but we will be developing a solid RESTful API that will enable you–or whomever wants–to develop integrations galore.
Thanks!

I missed the limitation regarding the use of WordPress for SoChurch (just their site). I mistakenly thought there might be something as robust for us customers.
Color me disappointed. Using an API kills the concept of simple and easy to use.
My content contributors were expecting more than another blog.
Craig Van Korlaar says
Hey Chuck,
Sorry for the confusion. Our platform has been built using Ruby on Rails and is looking to be a content management system that goes well beyond a blog. Our existing member directory and multiple group pages allows for content to be posted and distributed automatically to where members already are based on group affiliation. Church and group leaders (or the members themselves) can manually add members, update their contact info and assign to groups instantly including that individual in the communication coming from these groups. We’ll also be implementing static content pages geared towards visitors looking for more information about your org.
We’d love to discuss your needs and ideas further. Let us know if you’re up for a call later this week.
