One of the typical discussions in terms of social media and blogging is transparency and how social media and social networking has developed a culture where all data flows in and out. Nothing is sacred, everything is game.
But anonymity is an amazingly powerful thing and there is still wisdom in leveraging even in this social space.
The internet enables people from all backgrounds, cultures, and contexts to engage in conversations without necessarily giving away their true identity. Sometimes, being anonymous can be leveraged to discuss topics that would not necessarily be possible if one’s identity is initially revealed. Often times you can develop relationships more quickly by simply staying anonymous.
Ultimately, the goal is not to stay here but when leveraged appropriately it can “grease the wheel.”
If you want a great example, check out this post and the video there.
So consider how anonymity can be used in your ministry context and blog. Perhaps there’s a use for it still.
[…] Be Respectful. This one is obvious, but sometimes you still have to say it. We will not ban but we don’t encourage anonymity. Be real, authentic, and nice and you’re good to go. […]
