A lot of people talk a lot about how blogging and blogs are developing true community. It’s true, but not as much as people may believe.
As we rethink how blogs develop community perhaps there is wisdom in revisiting how contribution is one of the catalysts that drive true community.
You see, if a blog is a community then there has to be more than one voice, otherwise it’s just another glorified podium for one individual. One challenge I presented the audience at the Orange Conference breakout was to begin to think in terms of how one can facilitate and provide platforms for empowerment to drive community engagement upwards.
You see, everyone can contribute, and not just in the comment section. By developing a culture where all the giftings, talents, voices, and opinions matter and are heard, the blogging medium becomes much more powerful.
The sum of its parts are definitely greater than the whole.
Too many blogs are still languishing in the dust of a single and solitary voice with only one true contributor. This strategy isn’t for everyone, but it is for those that have community as a part of their desired end result.

This is so true! A little over two months ago I created YouthMinBlog.com as a collaborative blog with authors from different backgrounds. Even after two months a community is forming but the community amongst the authors is much greater.
