I had no idea that this type of product actually existed. I suppose the next question is whether or not it’s worth the price tag?
Playback Drive is a hard drive that comes pre-loaded with a bunch of animations, media, loops, and more:
- 75 High Definition Video Loops
- 75 Standard Definition Video Loops
- 50 TripleWide Video Loops
- Over 120 Still Images
It’ll spot you $249.00 though.
Apparently it’s a collaborative effort between WorshipVJ, VisualWorshiper, and Orange Thread Media.
A good bunch of guys, I might add. Check out this promo vid:
So, is this worth the $250 spot? What’s your take?
Thanks @PhillipGibb for this tip!

Price is really good at first glance. It would be nice to see them have examples of the clips and images (more than what is on the video). Also, I don’t like the $50 addition for FW800 but it’s still pretty good.
Graham says
Yeah the pricetag seems reasonable… Like JayCaruso said… I’d like to see more examples though.

Our church once paid $180 for a collection of 18 CD’s that housed thousands of backgrounds… deal or no deal, we’ve come a long way!
Stuart says
This is the nub isn’t it?
Does your / my church have the wherewithall to do this for themselves? If so then the $249 shouldn’t be worth it. That said, if you have ability and capability to do this then shelling out the bucks to support a ministry or two is not an issue either.
The real question for rne (apart from agreeing with Jay’s) is will the church use them and / or do they know how to use them?
Jeff says
I just saw this posted on http://www.worshipVJ.com – thought it may help to see this… Since we’re all talking about what exactly is on the drive! I think I may go get one after seeing this.

The price is really good. Less than $1/piece for media that has been preselected for church use. If you’re doing anything at all with visual worship in a church setting, this seems to be a no-brainer. And if you know of a church that is just getting started using visuals in worship, this would be great place for them to start.
David says
They’re certainly the guys with the chops. But backgrounds are such a commodity business now. Is it worth the net $1 extra a clip over something 50-75% as good? Hmm.
Travis says
The general price is pretty stinking good for what you get compared to similar sites. (HighwayVideo, WorshipHouseMedia, etc.) The real question here is how much of it is usable for you? The number of videos for that price, HDD or not, is good, some things may not be good for your church setting though. I anticipate getting one for my church and moving all of my video content on it and using it as the storehouse for all my media. I’m waiting to find out how much space the data takes up before I make a decision on drive size.
Stephanie Ciardi says
Seems like a decent price. I’ve not done too much pricing in the church realm specifically, but generally speaking some HD stock video can be around $75 a pop. Multiply that by just the 75 HD videos it includes and it would seem you’re already getting a decent price. I agree with JayCaruso though, it would be nice to see the examples cause at this point it’s hard to say if it would even be useful for my church specifically.
On another note, I’m all about getting unique footage. If you have the time and resources to get your own, I think it makes that much more of an impact to the audience.

hey everyone-
first off, John…wow…thank you so much for the kind words and the post you wrote about the Playback Drive. This blew us away! and the 8Bit Network….LOVING THIS new online community!
to those of you who have written comments…thanks for everything you wrote…we agree with you that it’s only fair that you get a better glimpse of the content you are getting on PBHD. I’ve just posted a Guided Tour walking you through the majority of the content (still finalizing and downloading from our FTP servers)…. I hope this answers some of your questions and gives you a more close-up look at what PBHD is all about.
