Have you been thinking about getting a new mobile phone?
It’s something that most of us go through every few years when our service plans offer us an upgrade or we happen to drop them in such a way that there is no way they can be repaired. With so many different phones out on the market, it can be really tough to work out which device you should get.
That’s why this handy little video from the Verge might help you a lot. In it they look at their recommended smartphone for most people and some alternatives (if you don’t like their top picks).

Their top recommendations are:
- The iPhone 7 (plus)
- The Google Pixel (XL)
- The OnePlus 3
One of the things I found most interesting in the video is that the reviewer uses a different phone from the one he recommends “for most people.” In my opinion, that makes his recommendation extra valid. After all, if you recommend a phone that is different from the one you have, you probably have less personal bias in favor of your own choice.
I think it is also interesting how similar all their picks are with a metal frame, fast charging, no wireless charging, little waterproofing (okay the iPhone is a bit better here) and great cameras all around the same size. It goes to show how much all these smart phones are converging on the same center ground.
Personally, I don’t know if I’d recommend the iPhone 7 for most people, I know that the app store does still have a few more exclusives but seeing as so many people rely on google products more than these exclusive iPhone titles, perhaps I’d recommend the Pixel over the iPhone for most people (considering I have an iPhone SE which I love. Just the best phone size ever).
