Canada now has metered internet usage and we’re already seeing its effects on the smartphone market.
Canadians don’t want a limit on how much data they can get their digital fingers on, and who can blame them?
But, what are companies like Netflix going to do?
Sure, using a smartphone works great to check your email and take in a Youtube video or two, but it’s not like families are going to pop-up some popcorn and gather around Dad’s iPhone and watch Netflix.
The Canadian government hasn’t showed any movement towards overturning the Canadian Radio-Telecommunications Commission’s usage based billing, despite public outcry. Netflix, however, has decided to make a move and ensure the new expansion into the Canadian market by hiring lobbyists.
If Netflix has its way, there will be a lot of grateful Canadians (and new customers).
