Some different churches have asked what the best way to create great blogging habits, so I wanted to share our blogging habits here for those that are wanting to possible improve their own process of getting an article online or someone that is just getting into blogging and want a solid foundation. It should known that these are our habits of writing 300-700 word articles every single day in less than an hour and so we need to maximize efficiency in a short amount of time.
Tomorrow we will share some of the things that we hate about our blog that we wish we could have the time or creativity to change, so couple this article with tomorrow’s for maximum impact. In the comments, what are some things you dislike about your blog?
Good Blogging Habits
This is our list of five blogging habits that we focus on with every single article. Take it for what it is because you might want to blog for more than an hour a day or more than 700 words. That being said, you can find some helpful nuggets in here.
- Featured Image
Of the hour that we spend on our blog, no less than 10 minutes goes into finding the perfect photo to put at the top of the article. Make sure that it pops (see the circle in ours above along with the blur) and makes sense. There is nothing more frustrating that seeing a super tiny photo with an article or an image that just does not make sense with the content you write. If you use Pinterest, 10 minutes is a must! - Title
We will talk about this more with SEO, but writing the best title you can may be as important as the content you are writing. I say this because most of the people will decide to read your blog article through their RSS feed, the newsletter you put out, or just on the endless articles on your blog solely by the title. You want people to read your articles? Put a solid 5-10 minutes into writings and rewriting your title. Think about if you read it, would you read it with your finite amount of time? - Similar Formats
Many people push back on this idea of using similar formats and we do not endorse writing a 6 point article every time, but having a similar format will streamline the process. Know what you want to write, how you want to communicate that to others (paragraphs, video, etc), and then become an expert at writing that way. - Question at the end
Expecting comments from your viewers is a normal thing, but what are you doing to promote a dialogue? Studies have shown that a simple question in bold at the end of your article will increase the number of comments you have. Assume the reader has read the article and get their thoughts on the topic. - Maximize SEO
This is the fear bloggers have. “I just want to write content, I don’t want to do SEO.” But if you are using WordPress, Yoast SEO is a great plugin that will help you maximize this content. After just a few weeks, you will be automatically doing the tips that this plugin promotes, including keywords in the title, URL, and first paragraph, writing readable content, and using headings in the article.
