I’ve been in search of a calendar app that I like, but also will do what I would like it to do. There are many apps that do the calendar service app thing. Nearly every phone has a calendar on it including most “dumb phones.” So why is it that we have multiple calendar apps if there is a stock one on our phone itself? For me, it’s because I have a basic need for a calendar, but also have very particular things I want in my calendar app. [Read more…] about Sunrise: My Search for a Calendar App
Mailchimp Snap: A Picture Perfect Email Newsletter Solution
If there is one social media which rules above all others, I think email would be a good contender. Despite being one of the first forms of social media on the web, it just keeps going. Other sites and services have risen and fallen but email is still one of those services which everyone uses (even people who don’t use Facebook. Yes, there are still people who don’t use Facebook), has one of the highest read rates, and often results in more information being absorbed by the readers.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that churches, ministries and missionaries have been using email for a long time to reach supporters, get prayer requests out, raise funds, and co-ordinate.
With that in mind, I found this new app from Mailchimp to be really interesting, especially for missionaries. It’s called Mailchimp Snap and basically it’s an app that let’s you email pictures with text from your smart phone (iOS or Android) to a Mailchimp email list.

“Hey, Siri!” Apple Event Round-Up
Ok, folks, so Apple’s event is over, and we’ve been swamped with tons of info. Here’s a brief synopsis of what I found interesting. I’ll pop in with some commentary in a few spaces, but I’ll try to keep this brief and easy to skim. But no promises.
There will be tons of reviews of the event, and I encourage you to check them all out. (If you’d like to pretend you were there, you could check out MacRumour’s Liveblog.)
The Pastor and the iPad: Introduction & General Productivity [Series]
Personal electronics have been all the rage since the smartphone burst upon the scene over a decade ago. I didn’t truly join the craze—unless you count the Samsung BlackJack 2—until 2010 when I got an iPhone for a combination Christmas and birthday present. I upgraded in 2012, on schedule, like a good fanboy, but last Christmas, I decided that my iPhone 5 was more than enough and opted instead to buy an iPad.
While I have enjoyed the device, there have been times when I’ve felt foolish for purchasing it, but then again, more than once, it’s been a huge help to my productivity. That being said, I thought I’d share a bit of what I’ve learned between the two poles of buyer’s remorse.
This will be a five-part series that covers a variety of topics of interest to a pastor in possession of an iPad, though this could apply to any tablet or even a larger smartphone. Before we begin, however, let me start with how the idea of this series was born.

5 Easy Tips for Using Periscope in Ministry
Last time we did a quick little review of Periscope, the newer live video social media app.

9 Technology Podcasts I’m Enjoying Right Now
I love podcasts, I’ve been listening to them for more than five years and making them for a couple of years. The ability to consume them anywhere, anytime, makes them my most favorite of mediums.
I’ve done video podcasts before, I don’t like them.
I consume podcasts when I’m doing administrative work, mowing, in the car, and doing dishes. Sometimes I need a little entertainment, sometimes I love a bit of facts and professional ideas. Many of my podcasts vary in length from 10 minutes an episode to a couple of hours. I tell you all of this because I want to share nine of my favorite podcasts out there and figure I’d give you some of my biases.
I hope this list helps!
