Sprint announced today their new superphone, The 4G EVO HTC, and I know that a few of my buds are going to be sporting that as soon as it comes out.
Wow. 2 cameras, HDMI output, WiFi hotspot… what’s not to envy?
It’s fascinating to me that, as believers, we can often fall into two different camps:
- I have the newest thing because we’re all about Grace and not living under the law! And, besides, I’m staying culturally relevant.
- I have a barely working 7 year old phone but it keeps me humble and helps me stay fiscally responsible. Retro baby!
I know there are more camps than the above two and it’s a rather unfair critique but that’s how I feel at times.
Is there even a balance? Does it even matter?
Eh. It doesn’t matter. The iPhone wins just because of all the cool apps. Game over.

If it were released today, instead of being announced today I would return the phone I recently bought and get it. But instead it will come out sometime this summer, and then something cooler will come out this fall and I won’t get either one of them 🙁

I don’t really wanna get in a discussion about financial responsibility with respect to technology, so I won’t ;).
But two cameras..? LOL, okay.

What he said ….
But I do like (not love) my iphone.

This is difficult for me. As a techie, I want the latest and greatest (Droid or the new HTC since I am a Verizon guy). But, as a Christian, I feel I should give up some of those thing to focus on other more important stuff. I get really torn on what to do.
So right now, I have a 3 year old flip phone. But my contract is up in 2 months so it will be decision time soon.
Stephen Bateman says
oh the envy. But hey, my “dumbphone” doesn’t cost me $30 a month for data. And it’s probably good for my soul to have the internet relegated to one device. Walking around with it constantly would make it difficult to smell the roses ya know?

Game. Set. Match. iPhone.
What’s not to envy here? It’s on Sprint. And when people call to leave a message they have to wait a minute for the Sprint Lady to go through her schpeel. And it’s gets them every time, even though pressing 1 skips it. Of course- if you do this you’re not ready for the beep and there’s the awkward pause for like 10 seconds before they realize there was a beep ten seconds ago.
Something like that….
