I don’t think it matters whether you are 80 years old, a senior in college, a full-time student with a full-time job, a single parent with three children, or a church techie with a senior pastor that has not recognized your work in two years. The fact that you are able to do something that God gifted you should be all that you need.
This reminds me of when David was being chased by Saul in the twin books of 1 & 2 Samuel. Several times we see David lamenting towards God. What did he do but love Saul and God? Why did he deserve this?
- How many times have I sat behind a computer upset at the worship leader for not bringing me the lyrics at least two days ahead of time? I have been on time regularly.
- Do I really have to go to the senior pastor to fix their iPhone settings for the twentieth time?
- Secretaries are suppose to know Publisher better than I do. It’s not like its rocket science.
- I can help the youth pastor connect the iPad to the Apple TV again, but I guarantee you that they haven’t even tried. It’s not like I have a whole list of things I have to complete.
Don’t get me wrong, you need to have boundaries to protect yourself and family as well as enough respect for them that you will be honest when you are upset with them but compassionate enough to give them your critique with love.
But what if we lived life with joy in the midst of these silly little problems?
What if we could have enough excitement for doing church technology and focus on the fact that God has gifted us in unique ways and let the worries melt off of us?
What if we could let go of the fear of failure on Sunday mornings and just bask in the glory that we are uniting the church in worshiping our Lord and Savior?
Need a kick in the pants towards that joy, excitement, and glory?
