WebGL is the open-standard implementation of OpenGL in your browser.
It uses hardware acceleration to render high fram rate 3D animation right in your web browser.
… But, I’m sure you all probably knew that.
The great thing about WebGL is that it’s scripted with Javascript, unfortunately, Microsoft just likes to talk about the Beauty of the Web, so you’ll have to use Chrome 9+, Firefox 4+ or Safari OSX 10.6+ to enjoy these rockin’ demos:
TankWorld
Sure it’s simple, but it’s running straight from the browser! Very cool.
Clouds
I thought, “Oh. Clouds. What’s the big deal?” They’re cool. It’s worth the visit.
HelloRacer™ WebGL
I never thought driving in circles could be this much fun!
Chrysaora
It’s Finding Nemo all over, again.
Sintel Goes Boom
The picture doesn’t do it justice. I think they could have done a better job executing the concept, but cool none-the-less.
Sure, these are demos. Demos and application never seem to match, but I think this tech is certainly promising.
